I. What is CDMA International Roaming?
CDMA international roaming means that mobile phone users of CDMA system can still use CDMA mobile phone to make communications in other countries and regions’ other networks when leaving out of the home network. CDMA international roaming is only provided in countries and regions which have network system compatibility and have signed bilateral roaming agreement. For China Unicom network, it is mainly divided into international roaming of China Unicom users and international roaming of overseas users.

II. CDMA HK, Macau and Taiwan Roaming
Because China Unicom cannot cover HK, Macau and Taiwan, when users go to HK, Macau and Taiwan, they can only use the local operators’ network of HK, Macau and Taiwan. China Unicom has now opened bilateral roaming service with HK and Taiwan CDMA operators, so China Unicom users can use their China Unicom mobile phone number in HK and Taiwan with the same roaming method as the CDMA international roaming method. There is no CDMA network in Macau, so China Unicom CDMA users cannot use roaming in Macau.
The following instruction is the roaming service of China Unicom CDMA users (133 users) in HK, Macau, Taiwan and other countries and regions.

III. Transaction of CDMA International Roaming Service
When accessing to internet, China Unicom users do not enjoy international roaming and international long-distance function initially, and users shall take China Unicom CDMA mobile phone and go to local China Unicom business hall to transact and open China Unicom CDMA international roaming and international long-distance service before visiting foreign country. Basic methods to handle international roaming service are as follows:
1. Transaction for yourself: take personal ID card
2. Transaction for unit: take the certificate issued by the unit
3. Transaction for others: take your personal ID card and the phone owner’s effective ID card
The transactor shall pay certain amount of prepayment call charge or deposit. This is only provided for reference, for various Unicom branches have different procedure. Please dial China Unicom’s local customer service telephone 10010 for detailed procedure.

Before going abroad, please confirm the following matters:
Whether China Unicom has opened CDMA international roaming service with the country or region you are going to go. Please consult the roaming country and region for the latest opening situation. You can consult relevant operators’ information of the country or region you are going to go and pay attention to other important notices.
Have you applied for international roaming service and international long-distance service, if not, please handle relevant application procedure in China Unicom business hall with relevant certificate; if you are a VPN user of China Unicom, you should handle additional special procedures. Please refer to China Unicom’s local customer service telephone 10010 for specific requirements and procedures to apply for international roaming service.

Please update PRL list in UIM card before going abroad, or you cannot use automatic roaming in some network. Specific steps for updating PRL list are as follows:
Compile a new short message: PRL
Send the short message to: 165
Send and wait for reply. When you receive a short message of “PRL Update Successful”, updating of PRL list in UIM card is successful.

Because PRL list is continuously updating in light of the opening situation of roaming network, it is better for you to make once updating each time when going abroad. You may receive different pieces (one to three) of short messages for replay to each updating, but only receiving of “PRL Update Successful” shows that PRL list updating is successful. Because updating short message of PRL list is stored in UIM card, before sending updating request, you should leave enough space in UIM card to receive short message reply, or PRL list in UIM card cannot be updated.
Sending “PRL” to 165, users shall be charged 0.1 Yuan /piece and receiving PRL updating reply short message is free of charge.
China Unicom’s CDMA mobile phone only support 800M, so when you are visiting America and Canada, your mobile phone can realize automatic international roaming only in the 800M coverage of operators’ network which has been opened by China Unicom. Please refer to various operators’ materials of the roaming country and region for detailed information.
Please fully charge your mobile phone battery before going abroad to prevent trouble caused by failure of work owing to no electricity of your mobile phone.
Attaching plugs in some countries are different from those in China. You can ask your hotel to provide and change plug. If you go abroad frequently, it is better for you to prepare a multi-functional attaching plug to meet the needs of different standard attaching plugs.
