 Dial-up method
I. Choice of network
For China Unicom’s international roaming users, you can choose the local network when you arrive in the foreign country by the following means:
1. Automatic network selection
It is unnecessary for you to make any arrangement of your GSM mobile phone, SIM card in your GSM mobile phone will automatically research available network and choose the best one for you.
2. Manual network selection
If users want to obtain service through the network designated by yourself, you can make corresponding arrangement by your GSM mobile phone. Take Nokia 6210 as an example, specific operation as follows:
(1) Open mobile phone menu and enter the following menu item one by one
(2) Choose “set”→ “mobile phone set” → “network selection” → “manual”
SIM card in your mobile phone is now searching available network and show the result (name of network) on your mobile phone screen. You can make selection based on your own needs and press “enter”.

2. Usage of “+”
(1) Because different countries and regions have different international access codes, such as HK: 001, America: 011 and some countries: 00, to facilitate users’ memory and dialing, in GSM criterion, “+” is stipulated as the general international access code, so no matter you are roaming in which country’s GSM network, you can use “+” to replace international access code, unnecessary for you to remember different international access codes of different countries. When you dial a Chinese user in a roaming country, you can dial: +86 ……; when you dial a HK user, you can dial +852 …….
(2) There is a “+” key in all GSM mobile phones. If you press this key for several successive seconds, “+” will appear on the screen of your mobile phone.
3. Instruction of long-distance area code of fixed telephone
When you dial a Chinese fixed telephone during international roaming, please do not add “0” before area code. For example, if you dial a fixed telephone in Beijing, you shall dial +86-10…; if you dial a fixed telephone in Shanghai, you shall dial +86-21….
4. Refer to the item of “country code” for country and long-distance area code.
